Bibliology: The Doctrine of the Written Word
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Since for unbelieving men religion seems to stand by opinion alone, they, in order not to believe anything foolishly or lightly, both wish and demand rational proof that Moses and the prophets spoke divinely. But I reply: the testimony of the Spirit is more excellent than all reason. For as God alone is a fit witness of himself in his Word, so also the Word will not find acceptance in men's hearts before it is sealed by the inward testimony of the Spirit. The same Spirit, therefore, who has spoken through the mouths of the prophets must penetrate into our hearts to persuade us that they faithfully proclaimed what had been divinely commanded ... "
--John Calvin, Institutes of the Christian Religion 1.7.5.

"Holy Scripture is the means through which the Spirit creates and sustains a covenant community, the medium through which the Spirit impresses Christ upon us."
--Kevin J. Vanhoozer ,
The Drama of Doctrine

"Compare Scripture with Scripture. False doctrines, like false witnesses, agree not among themselves."
- William Gurnall

The Scripture is to be its own interpreter, or rather the Spirit speaking in it; nothing can cut the diamond but the diamond; nothing can interpret Scripture but Scripture.
- Thomas Watson

The Scripture is both the breeder and feeder of grace. How is the convert born, but by `the word of truth'? (James 1:18). How doth he grow, but by `the sincere milk of the Word.'? (1 Peter 2:2)
- Thomas Watson

The Claims of The Bible Concerning Itself By Richard M. Riss
Not only do all of the Scriptures carry with them the claim to be describing events that have really taken place, but the Biblical authors believed that whatever had previously been recorded in Scripture had actually happened. For example, the book of Joshua presupposes that the events recorded in the Pentateuch had actually occurred. The Bible consistently builds upon the historicity of previously recorded events and is intelligible only if these prior events real. Also see The Claims of The Old Testament By Richard M. Riss

Nature And Scripture (.pdf) From The Infallible Word: A Symposium, by the members of the faculty of Westminster Theological Seminary, pp. 255–293 The two forms of revelation—revelation through nature and revelation in Scripture—be set in careful relationship to one another. Do the two forms of God’s revelation to sinners cover two distinct interests or dimensions of human life? Do they speak with different degrees of authority? Just what, we are bound to ask, is the relation between them?

General & Special Revelation
General revelation is how God condescended to reveal himself to man through his created order. While general revelation is sufficient to point all to a creator God it alone is not sufficient to reveal God's redemptive plan or grant saving knowledge (special revelation). God has ordained "...through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe." (1 Cor 1:21) There are two types of revelation: general and special. Idle speculation about God is a fool’s errand. If we wish to know Him in truth, we must rely on what He tells us about Himself.

Jesus Christ on the infallibility of Scripture by Dr David Livingston

"To preach the Bible as 'the handbook for life,' or as the answer to every question, rather than as the revelation of Christ, is to turn the Bible into an entirely different book. This is how the Pharisees approached Scripture, as we can see clearly from the questions they asked Jesus. For the Pharisees, the Scriptures were a source of trivia for life's dilemmas. To be sure, Scripture provides God-centered and divinely revealed wisdom for life, but if this were its primary objective, Christianity would be a religion of self-improvement by following examples and exhortations, not a religion of the Cross."
-Michael Horton

Inspiration
Biblical inspiration is the doctrine in Christian theology concerned with the divine origin of the Bible and what the Bible teaches about itself. "All scripture is given by inspiration of God [theopneustos], and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."
